The Companion Collection: Building Blocks for Design
The Companion Collection, a considered assortment of textured performance solids and velvets developed to coordinate with my original patterns and ground a scheme.
When I designed my first collection, I built it around pattern — palmetto silhouettes, sweetgrass weaves, the marsh grass of the Lowcountry. What I learned in the seasons that followed is that pattern alone cannot furnish a room. A grasscloth wall needs an upholstered chair beside it. A printed Belgian linen drapery needs a sofa that lets it read as intentional. A pillow in a hand-illustrated pattern needs a companion pillow that knows how to sit quietly. The Companion Collection is my answer to that — a small, considered assortment of textured performance solids and velvets built to coordinate with the studio's original patterns and give a scheme its steady ground.
Every fabric in the Companion Collection is chosen for one job: to ground a pattern. Tonal contrast, scale balance, material cohesion — those are the working parts. What makes the collection companion rather than cast is restraint. These fabrics are woven for durability and daily use, but the design brief was to stay quiet. They are the scheme's steady voice, not its loudest one. The collection has three material families: Basketweave, Tweed, and Velvet. Each one does something different for a scheme.
Meet the Fabrics
Basketweave
Basketweave is the workhorse of the collection: a classic woven structure with a soft, textured hand that reads calm at a distance and lively up close. It works well as a grounding solid in schemes built around coastal or geometric patterns, holding color without pulling focus. Four colorways cover the working range from a warm neutral through blues and one red. Rated at 51,000+ double rubs and A.C.T.-compliant, it holds up to daily use without losing its composure.
Basketweave
Basketweave is a performance fabric with a classic woven structure that grounds schemes built around coastal or geometric patterns.
Contract-grade, rated at 51,000+ double rubs, indoor/outdoor, made in the USA.
Tweed
Tweed carries a multi-fiber weave that reads more animated than Basketweave — color variation across the surface gives the fabric its texture and warmth. It works well in layered schemes where a woven solid can hold visual interest without competing with the pattern's scale. Four colorways move from a heathered neutral through blues to a warm sunset. Contract-grade, GREENGUARD Certified, and PFAS-free — suited to high-traffic upholstery.
Tweed
Tweed is a heathered neutral performance fabric that reads grounded and composed — a textured solid that adds no additional color.
Contract-grade, 33,000+ double rubs, GREENGUARD Certified and PFAS-free.
Velvet
Velvet is the collection's finish note. A smooth pile catches light differently than a woven — it deepens color, softens edges, and adds a second material register to a scheme. It pairs easily with warm and earth-toned patterns, bringing a secondary color forward and grounding the palette. Seven colorways run from a warm off-white through greens, blues, and warm reds. Rated at 105,000+ double rubs, GREENGUARD Gold Certified, and PFAS-free.
Velvet
Velvet is a performance velvet with a smooth pile, a neutral ground that lets pattern lead across upholstery and cushions.
Rated at 105,000+ double rubs, GREENGUARD Gold Certified, PFAS-free and stain resistant.
Available Across a Range of Luxurious Offerings
Fabric by the Yard
Every Companion textile is sold by the yard for custom upholstery, drapery, cushions, and bespoke projects. Five-yard minimum, ships in seven days, made in the USA.
Premium Pillows
The studio's made-to-order pillow program pairs Companion solids and velvets with the Charleston and Fauna printed patterns, so a room can read as one considered scheme rather than a set of separate purchases.
Wallcoverings
The Companion Collection is a fabric line, not a wallcovering line. For the wall, the studio's grasscloth wallcoverings sit beautifully alongside a Companion-upholstered chair or bench.
Bespoke Decor
Custom cushions, lampshades, bench seats, and upholstery in Companion velvets and wovens are available through the studio's trade program.
A Celebration of the Companion Collection's Charm
A scheme built entirely of patterns is a scheme that cannot rest. What the Companion Collection does — quietly, one texture at a time — is give those patterns a place to land. It was designed to be the supporting cast that makes the lead read even better.
I think of the Companion Collection as the collection that makes the other collections work. It was designed not to be noticed on its own, but to make everything around it feel more considered. That is the quiet job of a companion — and the reason this collection exists.
